Our Services

Walk-In Clinic

Our Walk-In Clinic allows patients to book same day appointments and/or follow up with a doctor that is not their primary care physician.  Our walk-in services include treatment for acute problems as well as ongoing care, treatment of minor lumps and bumps, wart treatment and minor surgical procedures, including suturing. We accept WCB and ICBC claims.

Family Practice

Willoughby Medical Centre also operates a Family Practice. This allows patients to book appointments with their family doctors instead of waiting at the walk-in clinic. Some procedures such as physicals and Pap tests must be booked as an appointment. Some of our family doctors also work walk-in shifts throughout the week for your added convenience. If you wish to book an appointment with your family doctor, please book an appointment via our online booking link or by calling the clinic.

Children & Youth
Physician

Dr. Martens is accepting new patients between the ages of 0 and 24 years.  Dr. Marten has 15 years of family practice experience and is thrilled to now focus his practice on providing longitudinal care for children and youth.  If you would like to book an appointment for a patient between 0 and 24 years old with Dr. Martens, please call the clinic.

Trigger Point Therapy

What is a Trigger Point?

Trigger points are very common but rarely diagnosed. Trigger points are knots in the muscle that have developed from an injury or strain.  These knots cause local and referred pain, which may be aggravated by the knots’ high electrical charge, decreased oxygen and the release of certain chemicals in the muscle.

How does Trigger Point Therapy work?

Most of the benefit is derived by injecting a needle into the knot associated with the pain, thereby releasing the knot.  In certain situations, a local anesthetic may also be injected into the affected area to expedite recovery.

Treatment Duration

Each treatment session takes approximately 10 minutes.  Most injuries or strains can be treated effectively with 5 sessions.

Cost

Covered by MSP.

Laser Acupuncture

What is  Laser Acupuncture?

Laser acupuncture is a new method that uses the same principles of stimulating the body’s healing potential as traditional acupuncture, but without the discomfort of needles.

How does Laser Acupuncture work?

Laser supplies energy to the body in the form of thermal photons of light.  During each painless treatment, laser energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness and pain.  Laser treatment is extremely safe, painless and has no side effects.

Treatment Duration

Each treatment session takes approximately 6-9 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

Cost

$60 per treatment or $240 for 5 prepaid treatments. Your extended health plan may cover the cost.

F.A.Q

The Medical Services Plan (MSP) places restrictions on the number of patients that a doctor can see in a day. Due to fluctuating patient demand, the doctor may reach this MSP “cap” before the clinic is scheduled to close. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause and strongly urge patients to visit the clinic within 2 hours of the posted closing time to ensure being seen that day.

The following are some of the services not covered under MSP and will  incur a charge that must be paid for by the patient. A more comprehensive list is posted at the clinic:

  • Travel advice and medicine
  • School/Camp forms
  • Disability Forms
  • Driver’s Physicals
  • Work Physicals
  • Sick Notes
If we are unable to validate your medical coverage or you do not have medical coverage, there will be a charge for the visit.
There will be a charge for all patients who do not have valid medical coverage in Canada. We must be able to verify your out-of-province coverage prior to your visit.
Yes, in order for the doctor to discuss care of your child, it is necessary for the child to be present.
We do not give out test results over the phone, nor inform you if test results have arrived at the clinic. We do not call for normal results. If your result is abnormal, we will make every effort to get a hold of you to follow up with your results. However, we do not adopt a “no news is good news policy”. It is the patient’s responsibility to follow up on all tests done after the appropriate number of days (ie. 2-3 days for X rays and blood work).

We are only able to give telephone advice if a phone visit is booked via the online booking system or by calling the clinic.

Travel advice and medicine is not covered by MSP. Therefore, there is a private charge for your visit.
While our COVID-19 protocols are in place, all visits, including those with walk-in doctors, must be booked as appointments via our online booking link or by calling the clinic.

exceptional health care close to you

Willoughby Medical Centre is a full service family practice and walk-in clinic you can trust. Please note our clinic policies below.

Appointments can be booked via on online booking link or over the phone. If you are requesting a complete physical or pap smear, please ensure to indicate this as these services require a longer booking period.

No Show Policy – 24 hours required to cancel or reschedule appointments

If you are unable to make your appointment please give the staff 24 hours cancellation notice. There will be a no show charge of $80 for all missed appointments, which must be paid prior to seeing any doctor at Willoughby Medical Centre.
If you have a special circumstance regarding a missed appointment, you may discuss this with the Manager. The staff are not authorized to make any decisions regarding office

All patients are expected to return for follow up on all test results with the ordering physician. We do not adopt a policy of “no news is good news”.

We do not give out test results over the phone, nor inform you if test results have arrived at the clinic. Please find out before leaving the clinic how long it will take for the results to come in and follow up accordingly.

If a referral to a specialist is being made for you by our office, either our office or the specialist office will contact you with an appointment time. We will make every attempt to make referrals within 48 hours of your visit to our clinic, however due to wait lists at the specialist office, you may not be contacted right away.
In general, MSP does not pay for forms to be completed. Therefore, it is the patient’s responsibility to pay for most forms that needs to be filled out by the doctor. Please inform the receptionist of any forms needing to be filled out prior to seeing the doctor.
Our front staff are trained to help patients and we make every effort to make your visit pleasant and comfortable. We are completely supportive of our staff and neither the doctor nor management will tolerate any rude or aggressive behaviour. If you have any problems associated with your visit, please contact our Manager in writing.

Please ensure that your file is kept up to date with a best phone number, address, and emergency contact information. Please inform the receptionist of any changes to your personal information upon arrival at the clinic.

In keeping with the rules set out by the College of Physicians of BC, we recommend you discuss the copying of your consultation and test results to your Family Doctor at every visit.
